The mission of ‘Iolani School's libraries and archive is to enrich the intellectual life students by providing a warm, nurturing environment with 21st-century resources and technology.

‘Iolani School has two libraries and an archive. The goal of the libraries is to nurture lifelong learners, lovers of reading, and global citizens with competent research skills. The libraries support the curricular, professional and recreational needs of the school community with a multitude of services. The librarians work closely with teachers and students to provide instruction and offer a balance between electronic and traditional resources for their information needs. Our digital resources provide 24-hour access via the Internet. The archives provide access to historical records of ‘Iolani School.

The Lower School Library (grades K-6) is an inviting and interactive space. It is the hub of the Lower School and supports the classroom curriculum with resources and instruction. Students visit the library during regularly scheduled and free times. Lessons encourage students to become effective users of information and to promote a love of reading. Lower School students use the Upper School Library if the need arises. Parents may borrow from the Parents' Shelf or the regular collection. The library hosts two annual book fairs for students and parents. Families may donate to the library through the Birthday Book program.

The Upper School Library (grades 7-12) in the Sullivan Center for Innovation and Leadership provides students with a quiet place to study and research. It has four objectives: to cultivate innovation, citizenship, communication and discovery. The Library helps students grow more technologically competent and aware of their role as global citizens. The librarians work with the teachers to help students access, evaluate and apply information from a rich collection of sources in different media.

The Archives, which also is housed in the Sullivan Center for Innovation and Leadershipis the repository of ‘Iolani School's history. It provides information to the school, parents and alumni. The Archivist works to support institutional advancement and class reunions.
