The deadline to apply for admission to 'Iolani for the 2013-14 school year has passed.

Here are step-by-step instructions for completing the application process. Please review the application checklist before you proceed, and if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Age requirements to apply for 2013-14 school year

• Boys must turn five between June 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013
• Girls must turn five between September 1, 2012 and September 30, 2013

Apply by October 30, 2012
Apply online or through the mail:

• We recommend applying online. Applying online allows you to create a user account to check on the status of your application. However, if you prefer receiving an application packet by mail, you can call us at (808) 943-2222, or you can download and print the application packet.

• Complete the application and mail it with the appropriate documentation and the $125 application fee to:

Birth certificate or passport
A copy of your child's legal birth certificate or passport is required with his/her kindergarten application.   If you submit a paper application, include the birth certificate/passport with the application.   If you apply online, scan and email it to us at admission [at] iolani [dot] org or mail it to the 'Iolani Office of Admission.

Photos
Photos are not required, but we appreciate receiving them.   If you submit a paper application, include a photo with the application.   If you apply online, you can upload a photo to your application or you can mail it to us later.   Just be sure to print your child's name and grade applying to on the photo.

Testing
All kindergarten candidates test twice at 'Iolani.  As soon as we receive your child's completed application, we schedule him/her for testing. 

Individual aptitude testing begins in September.  Each child attends a weekday morning session in the Office of Admission.  It lasts approximately one hour.  Candidates return for a Saturday group readiness session in December, January or February.  Children meet in groups of 12 for 90 minutes and participate in classroom readiness activities.    

Off island candidates should contact our office at (808) 943-2222 so that we can arrange to have both tests administered within a two-day period.  

Report cards or progress report
If your child's school issues a report card or progress report, please make sure that we receive a copy of the 1st semester/2nd quarter report by February 10.

Recommendation form for teachers
Download the form listed below or use the one mailed to you in your application packet.  Read the directions carefully.  Complete and sign the release statement, and ask the teacher to return the completed forms directly to us between December 1 and January 31.

Provide the teacher with a stamped envelope addressed to:

Decision
If you meet all the deadlines, you can expect to receive a decision letter no later than April 30.  If offered admission, you have until May 10, the HAIS Common Reply Date, to respond to our offer.
