Hula

Hula

All Upper School students (grades 7-12) enrolled in the four levels of dance study hula.

The fundamentals of hula, including the use of traditional Hawaiian instruments, chanting (including basic language skills), lei making and Hawaiian values are taught at the basic level. Upper level students continue to hone these skills and further their dance training with Tahitian otea and aparima dance stylings.

Hula is also offered to students in grades 4-6 as an elective. They are introduced to both au'ana and kahiko as well as chanting. They are also presented with Hawaiian language, values, culture and history used in dance. They participate in the annual Winter and Spring Showcases.
