‘Iolani Dramatic Players

‘Iolani Dramatic Players

The ‘Iolani Dramatic Players began more than 30 years ago, under the direction of Ms. Watajeen Cano. She organized a group of passionate students with a common goal: produce high quality, educational entertainment for the ‘Iolani Community.

IDP now has a membership of more than 80 dedicated and talented students, still committed to Ms. Cano's vision.

The Fall Play performs at Diamond Head Theatre during the first weekend in November. Past productions include: The Crucible, The Skin of Our Teeth, The Prodigious Snob, Antigone, and A Commedia of Errors, which also performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August, 2010.

The annual Spring Musical performs at Hawai'i Theatre during the first weekend in March. Recent productions include: Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, Kiss Me Kate, Pippin, The Wiz, and Disney's High School Musical.

For the 2013-2014 school year, IDP will present Stephen Sondheim's classic musical Sweeney Todd, at Diamond Head Theatre, on Nov. 5 - 9, and Rodgers & Hammerstein's Flower Drum Song, at Hawai'i Theatre, on Feb. 27 - March 1.

(In addition, in order to raise funds for a trip to Scotland and England, IDP will perform A Christmas Carol, at Manoa Valley Theatre, on Dec. 12 - 14.)

In addition to our two mainstage productions, IDP students work either on stage or backstage for our Upper School Musical Theatre production, 6th Grade Musical, and Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Theatre productions.
