Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre

Students in the sixth grade may enroll for this exciting performing arts course that meets three times weekly. It is an introduction to musical theatre, focusing on developing students' skills in singing, dancing and acting. It also provides students with a thorough knowledge of stagecraft.

Handouts complement lessons that promote an understanding of the vocabulary used in professional theatre and what students can expect if they were cast in a local community theatre show or even one on Broadway!

This is a performance-based course so all of the activities are geared toward a culminating event -- the full performance of a musical, complete with sets, costumes and props!  This is the students' opportunity to share all the skills developed over the school year.

This course is also available to students in grades 7 through 9, but as part of the regular performing arts curriculum, meeting daily. The curriculum includes the basics described above at a more advanced level. A musical theatre production near the end of the second semester is the culmination of the course.
