The athletic program at Iolani School was founded by the late Father Kenneth A. Bray, Iolani's legendary football, basketball and baseball coach from 1932 to 1953. Iolani's "One Team" concept originated with Father Bray, establishing a tradition for modesty, sportsmanship and unity in athletics that is still practiced today.
Iolani currently boasts more than 32 varsity girls and boys athletic teams, including judo, kayaking and cheerleading. Numerous junior varsity, intermediate and extra curricular teams further expand our athletic program.
Roughly 900 Upper School students, or more than 70 percent, play on sports teams. Of these, more than half played on more than one team.
Dedicated coaches make the athletic experience a time of learning and growth for all students. Playing sports at Iolani is not about winning or losing -- it's about school pride -- and the experience gained from being a part of One Team.
