First graders buzzing about bees

February 16, 2012 - The Class of 2023 enjoyed a visit by beekeeper Mr. Ian Damon on Thursday. Broken up into five small groups, the first graders learned all about the fascinating world of bees.

The presentation fit perfectly into the current lessons about insects being taught in Mrs. Kathe Warner's science class.

The students tasted honey from Mr. Damon's bee farm, tried on a real beekeeper outfit and got an up close and personal look at real live bees tending to their queen in a hive.

During his presentation, Mr. Damon (pictured below on right, with a new young beekeeper)  stressed the importance of bees to our environment and discussed many reasons as to why bees are disappearing from the Earth.

Mr. Damon's presentation was made possible by a generous donation by 'Iolani parents, Dr.Tom Huang and Mrs. Karen Huang.
