GIRLS GOLF: ILH Champions!

April 9, 2012 - The ‘Iolani School girls varsity Division I golf team clinched the Interscholastic League of Honolulu team title on Monday, along with an automatic team berth into the HHSAA State Championships (April 30 - May 2).

A second-place finish at the 10th and final tournament of the regular season, which was held at the Makaha Valley Country Club, wrapped up the league championship for the Raiders, who posted six first-place finishes.

'Iolani shot a team total of 228, finishing six strokes behind Punahou. That result -- within the league's point system -- meant that the Raiders and Buffanblu tied for the ILH's second-half title. 'Iolani won the first-half championship outright and therefore takes the overall ILH title, which is a first for the school in girls varsity Division I golf.

If Punahou had won the second-half title outright, the Raiders and Buffanblu would have participated in a playoff during the first round of the ILH Championships (April 16 at the O'ahu Country Club and April 18 at Turtle Bay). As it stands now, those two rounds will be played solely to determine the league's individual honors and HHSAA state tournament berths.

Marissa Chow '12 led the way at Makaha Valley, shooting a 3-under, 69.

Last Thursday, the Raiders finished eight strokes ahead of Punahou at Coral Creek Golf Course. Rose Huang '15, the low-round medalist, shot a 2-under, 70.

And on April 2, 'Iolani won the tournament at Navy-Marine Golf Course, six strokes ahead of Punahou. Rose Huang shot 69 and Marissa Chow shot 71.
