Kāko‘o ‘Ōiwi service learning project

January 22, 2013 - Seventy ‘Iolani School students spent Tuesday at an all-day service learning project at Kāko‘o ‘Ōiwi, a 400-acre farm in He‘eia.

The participants were all members of the Class of 2014, who are enrolled in "ChemCom" (chemistry in the community).

Kāko‘o ‘Ōiwi is an non-profit organization dedicated to restoring the ancient lo‘i patches in the Heeia ahupuaa.

The ‘Iolani juniors were part of the effort to uncover the old loi patches and got waist-deep in the mud for several hours, digging a new patch to allow stream water to fill the cavity.
