Quartets perform at Barnes & Noble

October 8, 2011 - ‘Iolani School's string quartets will perform at Barnes & Noble in Ala Moana Center on Saturday, Oct. 8. There will be two performance sessions, the first one from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by one in the evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The performances are in conjunction with a fundraiser to support Orchestra 5 and its trip to The Midwest Clinic, the most prestigious musical conference in the country, which will be held in Chicago from Dec. 14 to 17.

‘Iolani was selected to participate in The Midwest Clinic along with 10 other school orchestras from across the United States and China.

The fundraiser also will take place on Saturday, Oct. 8, in-store at Barnes & Noble (Ala Moana) and online at BN.com from Oct. 8 through Oct. 13 (from anywhere).  A percentage of all sales on those days accompanied by this special ID number 10559615 will go into a fund to help reduce each orchestra student's total cost for the trip to the Windy City.

All Barnes & Noble purchases qualify for this fundraiser, including: books, gifts, downloads, music, food from their café, and cheesecakes from their café.

Please present the ID number (10559615) to the cashier and mention "‘Iolani Orchestra" at checkout in the store and enter the ID number online at BN.com. Please share this promotion with friends and relatives.

Being selected to attend The Midwest Clinic is a huge accomplishment for our outstanding orchestra program as ‘Iolani will perform before more than 15,850 educators, performers, exhibitors and clinicians from around the world.

The clinic aims to raise standards of music education, develop new teaching techniques, disseminate information to school music teachers and to examine, analyze and appraise literature dealing with music.

The ‘Iolani Orchestra will perform its Chicago program on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Hawaii Theater.
