CREATIVE NON-FICTION WRITING uses a workshop approach to the creation of non-fiction writing.  Students read published works to explore strategies for generating their own creative pieces, using such techniques as memory, investigation, imagination, research, observation, and reflection.  They learn to consider audience, purpose and selection of detail as they move through multiple drafts of each piece of writing.  The course teaches a set of rhetorical skills that apply to various types of non-fiction, including narration, compare-contrast, cause-effect analysis, definition, process analysis, classification-illustration, and persuasion-argumentation.

Homework guideline for 9th-12th grade: 30-45 minutes per night per core subject.
