Fiction and Film

 Ms. Longo

This class looks at powerful film adaptations of well-known literature to find the universal story within the technical wizardry.  Students analyze novels, short stories and screenplays as an avenue to creating their own video tales.  Readings include Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Stephen King’s Shawshank Redemption, and Su Tong’s Raise the Red Lantern. They view the many faces of Frankenstein and share original Hollywood screenplays to build a foundation for the magic that is film.   Screenplays and videos completed in this class are often shown in local film competitions and the Iolani Film Festival.
