Glass Menagerie at HPU

'Iolani theater teacher Rob Duval delivers an exceptional performance as the male lead of Tom in Tennessee Williams' semi-autobiographical play "The Glass Menagerie" now at the Hawaii Pacific University Paul and Vi Loo Theatre through May 3.

A drama of great tenderness, charm, and beauty, "The Glass Menagerie" established Williams as one of the 20th century’s most sensitive and poetic playwrights. With humor and compassion, the play centers on the whimsical, vibrant Amanda Wingfield, a faded remnant of southern gentility. Living with her would-be-poet son, Tom, and her fragile daughter, Laura, Amanda’s strength and devotion to her children help maintain her illusions of a better world. Rounding out the quartet of exquisitely crafted characters is Jim, the gentleman caller, whom Tom is badgered into bringing home for his sister.

The talented cast also includes Eden Lee Murray, Madeline Rhul and Elitei Tatufu Jr.

For tickets and information call 375-1282. Limited seating; reservations recommended. The theater is located at the Hawai'i Loa campus, 45-045 Kamehameha Highway in Kane'ohe.
