'Iolani School's state champion Speech & Debate members were recognized by the Honolulu City Council on Wednesday morning at Honolulu Hale. These champions will be among the students statewide who will represent Hawaii at the National Forensics League tournament in Las Vegas from June 15 to 20.
City councilman 
Charles Djou praised the students and told them that he was a Lincoln Douglas debater when he was in high school. He wishes that back then the city council recognized high school champions as well.
Coach Joey Miyamoto, Bhasha Chakrabarti '09, Sean Yancey '09, Katarina Hughes '09, Jesse Franklin Murdoch '10, Jackie Mosteller '10 and David Martorana '09 received certificates and a proclamation. (David was unable to attend the ceremony due to a conflict.)
