'Iolani Junior Miss Wins Again

The Honolulu Advertiser reports:

Alyssa Alysson Ochiai, Hawaii's 2009 Junior Miss, won a Talent Award of $1,000 for her piano performance of Fantasie Impromptu at the America's Junior Miss national competition Saturday, June 27, 2009 in Mobile, Alabama.

Alyssa is the daughter of Curtis and Karen Ochiai, and is enrolled to study a premedical curriculum at the University of California Los Angeles this fall.

The national title went to Kentucky's Junior Miss Michelle Rodgers, who won a $50,000 cash scholarship. First runner-up was Mississippi Junior Miss Sidney Anthony who took home a $20,000 cash scholarship, and a $10,000 cash scholarship went to 2nd runner-up Wisconsin Junior Miss Samantha LaBrasca.

Alyssa, a 2009 Iolani graduate, is Hawaii's 50th Junior Miss. The local scholarship competition is run by Hawaii's Junior Miss, Inc., a non-profit organization managed by volunteers.
