Inspired by the enthusiastic response by the community, sixteen year old 'Iolani
harpist, Melody Rose Lindsay, will present an encore performance of
"Harping Around the World," a free preview concert of the program she
will play this summer in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Melody has been
chosen by the World Harp Congress Association to represent the USA at
the 2008 World Harp Congress Focus on Youth program. In addition, she
was awarded a Deane Sherman Fellowship to attend the Congress and
perform at the newly constructed Bimhuis Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in
Amsterdam on July 18.
Melody will perform her winning World Harp program which includes Marcel
Grandjany’s work for virtuoso harp, Fantaisie, and an arrangement of
Gershwin’s American in Paris and Rhapsody in Blue by Eleanor Fell.
Melody will also feature music from countries around the world and play
and sing one of her own compositions, "Thoughts on Two Themes of
Tenderness," which includes the melody from Keali’i Reichel’s
Kawaipunahele.
Assisting Melody are special guests Amelia Linsky, singer, and nine-year
old Christopher Lindsay, narrator/flautist. Special guest artist,
Constance Harding Uejio, Principal Harpist of the Honolulu Symphony
Orchestra, will help Melody prove that two harps are even better than
one when they play a series of duets together, including excerpts from
the musical, "South Pacific."
This free, encore performance of "Harping Around the World" will be held
on Saturday, May 31, 2008 from 7 to 8 pm at Central Union Church, 1660
South Beretania Street on the corner of Punahou and Beretania streets.
The public is invited and free parking is available.
Melody’s goals for attending the 2008 World Harp Congress in the
Netherlands are to play well and to promote peace and global goodwill through
music and friendship while tasting a wide variety of European chocolates.

Christopher Lindsay, flautist, and sister, Melody Rose Lindsay, harpist, will offer an encore performance of "Harping Around the World" on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 7: 00 p.m. at Central Union Church in Honolulu.
