Artists Meet Rep. Abercrombie
On Saturday, May 7, several drawing, painting and photography students, along with their teachers Janis Uehara and Alison Uyehara, attended a reception and viewing of two-dimensional artwork by fellow high school students in the First Congressional District.

Fifteen private and public schools participated in this year's annual Congressional Art Competition in which one piece was selected to represent Hawaii's First Congressional District in a nationwide exhibit at the nation's capitol.
"Kaha Ki'i - An Artistic Discovery" celebrates the creative talent of Hawaii's high school art students by showcasing quality work selected by their instructors as candidates for the competition. This diverse body of work was on display at Honolulu Hale from April 25 - May 12.
Congratulations to Lisa Gao, Marya Kaminski and Allison Trecker who were recognized as quarter finalists.
Other Iolani students with work on display included Eunice Chi Kiu Ko, Cassandra Louie, April Nakamura, Leah Schretenthaler, Jordan Shiraki, Jenna Tamashiro, Alyson Wee, and Samantha Wong.
All students received a goodie bag of items from corporate sponsors and some of them also met Congressman Neil Abercrombie at the reception and award ceremony.
