Dr. Peter Askim, bassist and composer, performed three of his compositions on June 9, 2005 at the International Society of Bassists Convention at Western Michigan University.
Two of the compositions were “As Glaciers Thaw” commissioned by the Iolani Concert Orchestra and “Islands: Concerto for Bass and Strings” commissioned by the Tam-Young Arts Chair at Iolani School.
Peter said that he received a standing ovation from a very large audience. He also mentioned that he received requests to perform “Glaciers” in New York and Ohio and “Islands” in Australia and Poland.
He also stated that “the concert was a big success and all made possible by your (Tam-Young) vision and Iolani’s generosity! Iolani is becoming known as a great supporter of the arts!”
