Band Aids Youth Symphony

On Sunday, April 19th, four members of ‘Iolani’s Band 2 along with their director, Lynn Muramaru, presented their hard-earned “Pennies for Practice” in the amount of $700 to the Hawaii Youth Symphony for their Music in the Clubhouse outreach program. This program helps fund free music classes that the Youth Symphony holds at the Boys and Girls Spalding Clubhouse near Washington Middle School . The orchestra is currently offering a free “Music4Kids” general music class for students ages 6-10 years as well as a free band class for students 10 years and older.

We are inspired by your students’ choice to help other young people discover the wonders of music. There are few things more rewarding than seeing young people working to give back to their own communities. Thanks for all of your hard work to keep music education thriving in our community, and to the generosity of your students who have taken their music to a level beyond personal benefit,: said  Selena Ching, Executive Director of the Hawaii Youth Symphony.

Congratulations to Muramaru and all of the members of Band 2 for taking the initiative on this project.
