"Fishbowl" a Winner for Omori

Fishbowl, a prize-winning film starring Iolani junior Mie Omori was a hit at the recent Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) winning the Hawaii Film and Videomaker award. 

In addition to the festival, Fishbowl also made an appearance in Waikiki at the Sunset on the Beach show and at Dole Theaters on Sunday, October 30. 

Mie Omori and Billy Lam as Lovey and JerryFishbowl had its world premiere in San Francisco in March of 2005 and is is based on the book Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers by Lois-Ann Yamanaka. 

The film was directed by the late Kayo Hatta and filmed in Hawaii.  Previously, Hatta wrote and directed Picture Bride in 1994.  She died in a drowning accident in July of 2005. 

Fishbowl will air on PBS nationally on May 9, 2006 as a part of the Emmy-award winning show, Independent Lens. 

In addition to Fishbowl, a Cinderella story of a social outcast with a special friend, Omori has recently been featured as the wife of Mark Chapman, John Lennon's murderer in the film The Killing

In a recent IMUA interview, Omori said that she loves to learn, finding it "a sublime thing to do."
