The Iolani lower gym was filled with the energy and sonority of orchestras 1,2,3 and the lower school orchestras on Sunday, December 11 at the second of two Gift of Music Concerts presented by the Iolani Orchestras.
Students from grades five through ten, 140 strong, performed in five ensembles for an enthusiastic capacity crowd.
The 5th and 6th grade beginners, who first took their violins, violas, cellos, and basses in their hands a mere three months ago, played their four selections accurately and with gusto.
The lower school advanced orchestra/orchestra I students' performance included an audience singalong.
Orchestra II was joined by faculty singers Mr. David Masunaga and Mrs. Linda Tatsuno, with special guest appearance by Mr Tree and his pesky frog for "Frog in a Tree."
Orchestra III and guest percussionist Mr. Darin Kohara brought the concert to a rousing conclusion with a performance of the 1812 Overture, complete with fireworks provided by the lower school students armed with red and white balloons and pins.
