Int. Soccer Beats Puns

Int. Red Soccer Girls Move On To Championship

by Al Linsky

On the windward side, it was raining, sometimes hard, sometimes light, but constant rain. I prayed all day that the weather would clear, and it did, at least at Kapiolani.

I'd been looking forward to this game between our Reds and the Punahou Gold team as I knew it would be a good, tight game.

And it was. There was no scoring in the first half, although the  Raiders had the better opportunities and a slight field position advantage.

With about 12 minutes left in the game, Amanda McCaskill laid off a nice pass to Malia Brennan on the right side, pretty close in. Malia wasted no time shooting it hard to the left, lower corner. 1-0, Raiders.

The Puns pulled out all the stops to try to tie it up, but the Raiders defense would not budge and that's the way it ended.

The next game is for the ILH Championship. It will be against Kamehameha Blue, 4:15 at Kapiolani, Monday, January 7.
