Boys Int. 1 Basketball Over St. Francis 46-38
by Colby Takeda
January 5, 2009

In a second round matchup between the 'Iolani Intermediate 1 team and the team from St. Francis School, it was 'Iolani that came up on top, 46-38.

The first quarter was led by Jonathan Ide, scoring five points, while Reece Foy led the team with five points in the second quarter. With the exception of one St. Francis post that was tough on the boards and rebounds, most of the St. Francis team was smaller in stature but quick on the court.

The speed and agility of 'Iolani's team made this an excellent contest of cooperation and hard work. The first half ended 20-17 in favor of 'Iolani.

'Iolani started to pull away in the third quarter as Foy rallied for seven straight points off excellent passes from his teammates and a steal. Going into the fourth quarter, 'Iolani had an eight point lead as they were up, 34-26.

Their point advantage dwindled, however, as St. Francis closed the gap on an 8-2 run with 5:33 left in the quarter.

An accumulation of points from layups, jumpers, and free throws brought 'Iolani back up for the victory, 46-38.
