It was a tough team loss for the 'Iolani boys varsity 2 team last night as they fell to St. Louis by a single point.

The boys of 'Iolani took an early six point lead, stimulating their intensity with every basket, but then they went on a dry streak as St. Louis scored nine unanswered points through the second quarter.

Bad passing and careless mistakes hurt both teams, keeping 'Iolani scoreless until midway through the second quarter. An 'Iolani post broke the dry steak on a rebound for two which was followed by a steal and layup in the next play by 'Iolani's nifty defense. Now leading, 'Iolani made some unlucky turnovers allowing St.. Louis regain the lead going into the half, 'Iolani 10, St. Louis 15.

'Iolani started the second half with a bang, scoring four straight points and putting them within one of their opponent. Back and forth scoring by both teams followed, as the game was now tied at 23 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Improved passing and better transitions allowed 'Iolani to substantially improve their scoring in the fourth quarter. St. Louis kept on their tail with free throws and a strong inside game, tying the game back up at 39 after a small 'Iolani lead. Another free throw by St. Louis put them up by one with 7 seconds left. 'Iolani tried to recover with the little time remaining, but was unable to put it in, giving St. Louis the 39-40 victory.
