Soccer vs Puns

Girls Tie 0-0 In Crucial Game With Puns

by Al Linsky

Kamehameha - 9-2
Iolani - 8-1-2
Punahou - 8-1-2

The way it works is a win gives you 3 points, a tie gives you 1 point. This means that even though both the Raiders and the Puns beat the Warriors in the last week, the Warriors still enjoy their perch at the top of the league with 27 points to 26 points for both the Raiders and the Puns.

The reason this is so important is that only the top two teams move on to the State Championship.

The game Friday against the Puns, in front of the largest crowd I've ever seen for a home soccer game, was also one of the most nervewracking. The Puns had a time of possession and field advantage and had more quality scoring opportunities. But, the Raider defense and sterling goalkeeping by Lauren Brown, kept it to a scoreless tie.

So, the result is, assuming that all three teams win their games this week, WE GET TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN!

The game will probably be Friday or Saturday at Kapiolani or Waipio. Look for details later on in the week.

Meanwhile, as the girls were battling to their tie, the boys playing Punahou at Kapiolani eked out a 1-0 victory that should send them to the state championship tournament.
