Girls Varsity Basketball Falls To Puns, 49-31
by Al Linsky
Hemmeter Fieldhouse was packed!
You could feel the electricity in the air as the number one and two teams prepared to play for the third time this season after splitting the first two.

In the first game, back on January third, the Puns won 48-38.
The second game, on January 12 at the 'Iolani gym, saw the Raiders totally dismantle the Puns and win going away by a 48-35 score.
This game started out perfectly for the Raiders.
Chanel and Jamie hit three pointers and the Puns kept missing. It was 11-0 at the end of the first quarter.
It didn't last, though, as the Kuehu sisters and Janelle Nomura started to heat up. Nomura, returning from a broken ankle, looked like she had never missed a minute.
It was 16-16 at the half as the second quarter was almost a mirror image of the first quarter.
The second half was almost all Buffanblu as they played better team ball and their shots fell with regularity.
It was 34-25 at the end of three, and 49-31 at the end.
The scariest thing was seeing Jamie Smith, obviously wobbly and dazed, making her way back to the bench with a few seconds left in the game. The preliminary word is a broken nose sustained in a collision, but that has not been confirmed at this time.

Girls Div IAA Basketball Falls To Puns, 47-40
by Al Linsky
In their next to the last game of the season, the Div IAA Raiders travelled to Hemmeter Fieldhouse to take on the league leading Buffanblu.

The Buffanblu maintained a good lead in the first half. The Raiders refused to go away, though, as they battled back to tie it at 32-32 with 6:12 to go in the fourth quarter.
The rest of the game went back and forth with neither team able to pull away. With 1:27 left it was 41-39 for the Puns. A couple of nice steals later, led by Pun track star Chelsea Oda, and it was 47-40 for the Puns at the end.
