Warriors Better Third Time

Girls Varsity Basketball Falls To Warriors, 61-44
January 31, 2009

This was the third meeting between the Raiders and the Warriors.

Back on January 3, at home, the Raiders won in an exciting overtime victory, 37-35. The second meeting was on January 20, at Kamehameha. It was a one point nail biter, 56-55, again with the Raiders victorious.

The Raiders came into the game at number 5, while the Warriors were at number 6.

The Warriors at 3-5 were a lot better than their record showed.

Also, Mahina Haina the Raider center, suffered a sprained ankle a few days ago in the game against MPI.

I was expecting a close game but was figuring it would be very difficult to beat these Warriors three times in a row.

The Warriors started out fast, racing to a 10-1 lead at 3:42 of the first quarter. The Raiders regrouped after a timeout and closed the gap to 12-9, Warriors, by the end of the quarter.

The second quarter was the Raiders' best as they tied the game at 20-20 and went into half time only down one, 26-25, Warriors.

The third quarter was all Warriors as they were everywhere, especially on the offensive boards, extending their lead to 40-31 by the end of the third quarter.

The Raiders tried to get back in the game at the end by fouling to stop the clock, but the Warriors, especially Pualei Furtado, were hitting, and they were pulling away at the end.

Scoring leaders were Furtado for the Warriors with 20, Tami Konishi with 18 for the Raiders.

A good win for the Warriors, 61-44, and a time for regrouping for the Raiders.
