This game didn't mean anything.

What?

A game between 'Iolani and Punahou doesn't mean anything?

Well, in the ILH standings it didn't mean anything. The Raiders had already wrapped up the ILH Championship. The Puns were in second place and the result of this game wasn't going to change anything.

But, of course this game meant a lot to the players and fans, shown by the presence of a good sized crowd in less than great weather.

Senior Brock Granger, who leads the ILH in goals, padded his totals in a big way with three goals. The first was at about 20 minutes as he placed a 40 yard direct kick that squeaked over the goalie and in. 1-0. The half would end at 1-0.

Ten minutes into the second half Brock converted on a penalty shot into the low right corner. 2-0.

At twenty minutes, Keith Lum was in the middle of a scramble in front, right place, right time, 3-0.

At twenty-five minutes, the Buffanblu goalie mishandled a kick which ended up going right to Brock with the goalie out of position. 4-0.

Next up, States!

Girls Varsity Basketball Falls To Puns, 53-42

Feb. 4, 2009
by Al Linsky

Back on January 6, the Raiders pulled off a superb win, 42-38, over the Buffanblu at home.

On January 22, the Raiders took the court at Punahou to try to repeat their feat only to be overwhelmed by a much better Pun performance and a loss, 58-29.

The rubber match at 'Iolani gym would take place without the services of guard Lori Yamashita who was nursing an injured knee.

The game started similarly to the one at Punahou with the Puns running out to a 10-1 lead. But this time the Raiders fought back to stay in the game. It was 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. The next three quarters were pretty close with a slight edge going to the Puns. The end of quarter scores were 26-17, 40-28 and 53-42.

The Raiders made it interesting closing to six points in the final quarter, but the Puns were up to the challenge and held off the surging Raiders at the end.

The next game will be Tuesday, 2/10 at 6:30pm, at Sacred Hearts against a dangerous Lancer team.
