Girls Basketball Falls To Farrington, 68-51
Feb. 25, 2009

If you told me at the beginning of the season that a team that lost all five starters, including one of the best female basketball players in the state, would make States I would question your sanity.
Well, this team did it!
Yes, Farrington in the second round was more than the Raiders could handle, but this was after wins against Punahou, Kamehameha (three times) and other tough ILH teams during the regular season and ILH playoffs.
This was a fabulous season and the Raider faithful who followed this team know what I'm talking about.
Farrington is a big team with many girls in the 5'9" to 6'0" range.
Not only that, and this is what surprised me, they are fast and talented. The Govs are a great, great team. They might not go all the way because there are a few other great teams in this tournament, but they have an excellent chance.
The Raiders did mostly stay with the Govs through the first half, only trailing by five at the break. But the third period saw the Govs go on an 18-4 run which for all practical purposes put the game out of reach.
The Raiders never gave up, continued to hustle and go for steals and fight for rebounds, but matching up against the Govs was just too much on this night.
The Raiders now play Baldwin, 3:00 p.m. at Blaisdell, in the consolation round.
