Girls Win Soccer Tourney

Girls Varsity Soccer Wins Moanalua Tournament

by Al Linsky

Having won their first three contests, 1-0 over Roosevelt, 4-0 over Mid-Pacific and 4-0 over HPA, the Raiders moved on to the finals in the stadium at Waipio Soccer Complex.

It was fairly warm, partly cloudy with the sun peeking through occasionally plus some passing showers.

Great soccer weather!

The opposition was Kapaa from Kauai.

'Iolani controlled play, but there was no scoring until about 12 minutes of the first half, when Elissa Miniamishin put one in the lower left corner from about 10 yards out. 1-0, Raiders. And that's how the half ended.

About one minute into the second half, Elissa again found herself in front of the net and in the middle of a big pileup. She got her foot on the ball and made it 2-0.

With only a few minutes to go, Alyssa Simbahon put a free kick in play by lofting one so that Nikki Fergusson could come charging in from way out and head it in. 3-0.

Four games and not one goal scored against.

Next up is the Kamehameha Soccer Tournament, Friday through Sunday, again at Waipio Soccer Complex.
