Vars Boys Soccer Win Big

Raiders Win Huge Over Kauai, 11-1

by Al Linsky

It was cool with showers, occasional glimpses of sun, but mostly pretty dark for the 9:30am boys' varsity soccer game with Kauai.

I had just gotten into position, about 15 seconds after the starting whistle, when Blaine Gonsalves scored. I didn't see it, sorry.

A minute later it was Nick Goo from about 25 yards out. 2-0.

There would be no more scoring for about 15 minutes, although the Raiders totally dominated in shots and field position.

At about 17 minutes, Blaine struck again as he got behind the defense. 3-0.

Four minutes later, Blaine again from 25 yards. 4-0.

The Blaine show continued when, only 2 minutes later, he stole the ball, dribbled through a few defenders and put in another one. 5-0.

As the half neared completion, Reid Sakamoto launched a high crossing pass to Nick Moriwaki who headed it in. 6-0.

At 5 minutes of the second half, I guess Blaine got tired of scoring goals so he set up Josh Yee to get an assist. 7-0.

Blaine must have liked that so much he did it again, this time to Nick Goo who scored on a beautiful scissors kick while he was parallel to the ground. Pretty, pretty goal. 8-0.

Josh Yee then set up Marcus Joy with a nice crossing pass from right to left into the low right corner. 9-0.

Matt Toyama then passed from left to right at 35 minutes to Patrick Shimoko. 10-0.

Keith Lum then came in off the right wing, faked the goalie to make it look easy to finish the Raider scoring. 11-0.

With a few seconds left the Raiders were called for a penalty. The free kick from 25 yards out in the center had eyes as it just sailed out of the reach of goalie Matt Horner. 11-1.
