Int. Boys Girls Soccer Hoops
Int. Black Boys Soccer Ties Punahou Gold, 0-0
December 17, 2008
by Al Linsky
It was another dreary, cloudy day, this time at the Punahou field.
I can't remember the last time I saw the sun while doing a soccer game, but as long as it doesn't rain (much), I'm happy.
This game set up to be a close one and it was.
There really weren't that many scoring opportunities for either team as both defenses squashed most rushes that got near to either goal and both goalies were able to handle every shot on goal.
There was one "goal" scored when Guy Ahlo got in close and found the back of the net, but it was called back for offsides.

Int Girls Soccer 1 Falls To Kamehameha Blue 2-1
December 16, 2008

The Intermediate 1 division is playing a three game playoff.
The 'Iolani Intermediate 1 team played the Kamehameha Blue team in the first round at the intermediate field on the Kapalama campus on a cloudy, dreary day.
Both teams had one tie during the regular season (against each other) and no losses. This match, then, could be looked at as the championship. I certainly looked at it this way.
The match was a story of two completely different halves.
During the first half, the Raiders dominated with repeated rushes to the Warrior goal. At about 20 minutes of the first half, Sarah Endo hit paydirt with a hard shot from close in on the right side. 1-0, Raiders.
There would be no more scoring in the half which would lead to the Raider's undoing in the second half.
After positioning myself at mid-field to photograph both teams somewhat evenly in the first half, I decided to move near the Warrior goal so I could concentrate on the attacking Raiders. Bad move on my part as the Warriors came out with a new level of intensity and took over the game. The play moved to the Raider goal and only occasionally made it to the Warrior side.
The Warriors had quite a few good scoring opportunities and made good on two of them which was enough to secure the victory. 2-1, Warriors.

Int 1 Girls Hoops Over Kamehameha Blue, 19-11
December 16, 2008

Both teams were undefeated.
This match at the Kapalama campus was for early season bragging rights, especially since players on both teams knew each other so well from club ball.
Early scoring started out slowly--actually, it was more like a glacier, as the defenses from both teams dominated. The first points weren't scored until 1:57 of the first quarter as the Raiders broke the ice, 2-0. The Warriors answered and took the lead 4-2 at the quarter break.
The second quarter was more of the same as both teams struggled with their shooting. It was 6-4, Raiders, at the half time break.
The Raiders warmed up a bit in the third quarter stretching their lead to 11-6 as they started to dominate on both ends of the court.
The Raiders were able to maintain their momentum through game's end finishing with a 19-11 lead and a hard-fought, well-earned victory.
