Boys Varsity Soccer Defeats Warriors, 2-1

After doing a bunch of soccer games in the last twoweeks, and never seeing the sun, there were fleeting moments of sunshine at this matchup of two of the stronger ILH teams. I was looking forward to some great soccer and without a doubt, this was great soccer!

Both teams wanted this one badly. The constant intensity was contagious as it was pretty obvious that the large crowd was feeling every ebb and flow as these two teams slugged it out.

Overall, the Raiders held an advantage in ball control but the Warriors came up with some really good scoring opportunities.

At about 15 minutes into the first half, Nick Goo headed a ball over the goalie for a very pretty goal. 1-0, Raiders. About 10 minutes later, Warrior Ryan Ho made a rush up the right side and scored from about 30 yards. 1-1.

There was no other scoring until about 25 minutes of the second half when Nick found himself right in front in the middle of a crowd. He got off a quick shot. The goalie had no chance. 2-1, Raiders.

The Warriors pressed furiously to try to tie it up but the Raiders defense held to preserve a well-earned, hard-fought victory.

Over Kamehameha White

After having some trouble getting the midfielder to foward passing to work against Punahou Gold in the previous game, the Blacks refocused on the offense with great results.

At about 23 minutes, after a tremendous barrage on the goalie, Andy McCoy got the Blacks on the board with a high, 30 yard shot over the leaping Warrior goalie. 1-0, Raiders.

A few minutes later, Jordan Genovia connected on a rebound shot from the right. 2-0, Raiders.

One minute later, Edwin Li picked a pass out of the air from Chase Shimizu to score a pretty goal. 3-0, Raiders.

KJ Ahlo then set up Chase right in front for an easy 4-0 lead.

These four goals were all scored before the half and within about a five minute span.

At about twelve minutes into the second half, Kekoa Morris placed a corner kick well which resulted in a quick shot by Aaron Yanagi and a 5-0 lead and a dominant win.

With only one tie and no losses, the Intermediate Blacks are leading the ILH Intermediate division with only one game to go.
