Intermediate Blacks Score 2-0 Win

Down MPI and Dominate

by Al Linsky

The weather was superb as the Intermediate Black Raiders took on the Owls from MPI.

The Blacks held a distinct advantage in field position throughout but could only score twice.

The first goal was a pretty goal by striker Jordan Lee at 12 minutes of the first half. Jordan got possession and made many fakes setting up a pretty open shot at 10 yards. 1-0, Raiders.

The second goal came about three minutes later when Vance Horie made a rush down the right sideline. He launched a long shot from about 40 yards that cleared the goalie's outstretched arms by about a yard and settled into the far corner.

Great shot!

2-0, Raiders, and that's how it ended.

Int. Red Boys Continue Win Streak Over Puns

by Al Linsky

As a long time Iolani-Punahou observer, I know that wins over the Puns, who always seem to have top notch teams, are always hard to come by.

This week, though, has been a good one for Raiders fans.

On Monday, the Girls Intermediate Black soccer team beat Punahou Gold, 1-0.

On Tuesday, the Girls Varsity soccer team tied the Puns, 0-0, while the Boys Varsity won 1-0.

On Wednesday, it was the Boys JV tying Punahou Gold, 0-0.

With this background I went into this game with our Reds going up against the Golds thinking how much longer can this continue? The answer, at least one more game!

The Reds didn't just win, they dominated. At one minute, Logan Yamamoto launched a long one from the right corner that soared over the goalie's head, 1-0.

The Golds got that goal back at 12 minutes with a 20 yard shot from the right, 1-1. Justin Kim then put the Raiders ahead with some beautiful faking and never giving up that resulted in the goalie coming out and Justin getting the goal behind him, 2-1.

At 20 minutes of the second half, Tylar Peltier got an insurance goal on a pretty breakaway, 3-1.

JV Boys Finish Strong In 3-0 Win Over St. Louis

by Al Linsky

Since this was my third soccer game in a row, I was a bit concerned that it would be hard to maintain my concentration and do a good job.

This JV team, though, is a lot of fun to watch. There was a lot of enthusiasm and determination on display. Add that to some great athleticism and it was easy to stay interested even though there was no scoring in the first half although the Raiders maintained a large field position and possession edge.

Five minutes into the second half, Dylan Lee placed a perfect corner kick right in front with Hiroki Tokuyama heading it in from two yards, just how they show it in all the books! 1-0, Raiders.

There was no more scoring until about 35 minutes of the second half when Matthew Shimoko got behind everyone to make it look easy, 2-0, Raiders.

Five minutes later, for good measure, Borys Pleskacz made a nice corner kick that ended with Jason Yuaso getting the goal from close in. Final score, 3-0!
