Int. Black Boys Soccer Wins 1-0 Over Warriors
December 23, 2008
by Al Linsky
The 'Iolani Black Raiders had one tie and no losses.
The Kamehameha Warriors had one loss and one tie.
The Warriors' loss was to the 'Iolani Red team.
With a win today, the Blacks could sew up the ILH Intermediate Championship and allow the Reds to move into second place ahead of the Warriors.
The Kamehameha Blue Warriors have won the ILH Championship for at least the last five seasons. Their record over that time period is something like 54-5. The reason I know this is the head coach is a good friend of mine and neighbor. Bragging rights for the neighborhood were on the line.
Although there was no scoring in the first half, there were positive signs as the Raiders had a pretty good advantage in ball control and shots.
About one minute into the second half, Brandon Finger got free for a breakaway. The goalie couldn't handle the hard shot and the ice was broken. 1-0, Raiders.
As the second half wore on, the Warriors played better, started connecting on more of their passes and built up a ball control advantage.
But the Raider defense only bent, didn't break, and was able to hold the Warriors scoreless to wrap up the ILH Intermediate Championship.
