Records tumbled at the 2007 Punahou Invitational!
Girls:
Breanne Ball (8th grade) ran a 13:22 in the intermediate race to win by a large margin. The old record was 14:08! The next 4 finishers also broke the course record. Other scoring runners were Twyla Hamasaki, Erin Masatsugu, Krislyn Kuraya and Mele Hamasaki. The intermediate team placed second with 68 points. Punahou was first with 48 and Kamehameha was third with 70 points.
In the girls open race, Kamehameha dominated as they decided to run their varsity in this division. The first Raider finisher was Shelby Senega, followed by other scoring runners Cristin Lim, Kai Taniguchi, Emily Shiraki and Mariah Ariola.
In the varsity race, the Raiders had 3 girls in the top 10. Jenna Wong placed third at 19:47 (breaking the course record of 19:51), Maile Scarpino was 7th (19:56) and Amelia Linsky was 8th (20:01). Leyna Esaki and Elysse Tom rounded out the scoring to give the team a third place finish behind Maryknoll and Punahou.
Boys:
Kasey Chun (8th grade), ran a 12:20 to nose out Kelvin Naito of Punahou by one second to win the boys intermediate race. Other scoring runners were Kenton Nakamura, Ian Wong, Zach Masuda and Ryan Lum. The intermediate team finish third, behind Punahou and Kamehameha.
Andrew Ellison (10th grade), was the first Raider to cross the line in the boys JV race with a time of 20:12 and a strong 9th place finish. Other scoring runners were Michael Diebold, Hiroki Tokuyama, Rory Zia and Joey Harpstrite. The JV team placed third behind Kamehameha and Punahou.
In the boys varsity race, Palo Alto (California) dominated the top 10. But, Bryce Jenkins (Leilehua) broke his own record to run an excellent 16:28. The first Raider finishers were Borys Pleskacz (9th grade) and Trevor Leong (11th grade) who finished at 17th and 18th. Robert Tamai, Justin Higa and Chad Kawana were the rest of the scoring runners. The varsity finished fourth behind Palo Alto, Kamehameha and Punahou.
