Author/Explorer/Activist Brandon Wilson Visits

Just recently, award-winning uthor/explorer/photographer/peace activist Brandon Wilson visited `Iolani and spoke with students three different periods of the day.  Mr. Wilson was a guest of the `Iolani Peace Institute and the English elective Philsophical Literature.  He spoke about his many peace pilgrimages around the world, the most recent of which saw him walk with a friend all the way from France to Jerusalem, over 2200 miles, to spread awareness of peace.  The journey is beautifully chronicled in his latest book, Along the Templar Trail:  Two Men. Two Continents. One Quest. Seven Million Steps for Peace.

Mr. Wilson met with two classes made up mostly of seniors in Philosophical Literature, joined by interested students and faculty from the Upper School at large.  His France-Jerusalem peace walk is just one of several he has done throughout Europe and the Middle East.  He described the origin of his passion for travel and the peace pilgrimages he has taken over thousands of miles on sacred trails in Spain, Norway, and across Europe to Israel.

Students were fascinated by his adventures, envious of the freedom his life seems to embody, and warmed by his devotion to the cause of peace.  Although Mr. Wilson is gentle and soft-spoken, he left a powerful impression on all who say and heard him that will last for many years to come.
