Young Alumni Return

The annual ‘Iolani Young Alumni Panel and College Fair was held Thursday, January 3 in Seto Hall. Over one hundred alumni from the classes of 2003-2007 returned to campus to share their experiences with current seniors.

The event had two components, the first being a panel presentation. Nine students ranging from a first-year to a recent college graduate shared their perspectives on making a college decision, what they wish they had known when they made the decision, and what they’ve learned about college and their ‘Iolani preparation in the years since. Seniors had an opportunity to ask questions of specific panelists or the group as a whole.

After the panel, the seniors had access to a mini-college fair, with over forty schools represented. Seniors were able to talk with current students at schools to which they have applied, as well as just catch up with friends. Lunch was served concurrently so that the conversations could continue over the lunch hour.

The event is coordinated by the College Counseling Office and the ‘Iolani Ohana, which mails invitations to all alumni currently in college in early December. While panelists are chosen to represent a broad cross section of majors, school types, locations, and class years, all students interested in representing their school at the mini-fair are welcome.
