The annual Thanksgiving Chapel Service took place in the Lower Gym on Wednesday morning, bringing together the entire 'Iolani School community.
A lovely Pili Aloha hula by the wahine of Dance 3 and 4 expressed beautifully how much we have to be thankful for. The chorus then sang Gloria in Excelsis composed by choral director John Alexander.
Assistant Headmaster Lily Driskill delivered a meaningful homily that centered around her personal tradition of writing a thank you letter to someone special each Thanksgiving. She reflected how early in her career at a school in Spokane, Washington that she wrote a thank you letter to the school's principal, who was also her mentor. She also conveyed how Thanksgiving is about the four Fs: Food, Family, Friends and Football.
The offertory was made to the Institute for Human Service which was presented by Kate Bepko. She thanked students for supporting this worthwhile shelter for the homeless.
After today, the school enjoys a four day weekend in celebration of Thanksgiving. May the blessings, led by Rev. Daniel Leatherman and Rev. Diane Martinson-Koyama, stay with the community year round.
