Buy a t-shirt and save a life.
That's the message from the Contemporary Issues in America class that has launched a Service Learning Project to aid those in need in the Darfur region of Sudan, Africa. The ethnic and religious conflict there has resulted in the genocide of more than 400,000 people by the Janjaweed and Sudanese military.
All profits from student-designed t-shirt sales will go to the Dollars for Darfur organization that provides assistance to the more than three million refugees and others affected by the genocide.
"This is all student generated," said Contemporary Issues teacher Ms. Lisa Ritts. "It's their idea, their plan."
So far, more than 600 t-shirts have been sold. Fewer than 200 are still available for purchase. Those wishing to support the effort and buy a shirt may visit room W-312 or email Ms. Ritts: lritts@iolani.org
