RoboRaiders Make Finals

In the second largest tournament in the United States, the 'Iolani Botball robot, named “Boot”, placed ninth in the seeded rounds at the May 10 event at the Hawaii Convention Center. 

Under the direction of coach Winston Dang 73 , the team consisted of Justin Ching (12, Michael Dang ’12, Logan Davis '13, Cameron Dye '11, Kyle Flores '13, Jason Loui ’13, Markus Osterlund-Koga ’13, Kevin Suzuki ’13, Blake Tsuzaki ’13 and Spencer Wakahiro ’13. 

They worked for two months to program a Game Boy Advance  and modify an   iRobot Roomba vaccuum cleaner with metal and Lego pieces   and various sensors to perform tasks such as sorting by color, lifting cups, and pushing objects .  The “Bot” competed with 37 other middle and high school teams.  The boys also won a Judge’s Choice award for Creative Engineering Design!
