Kindergarten Korner

Maybe having Groundhog Day this week has something to do with the children being “as busy as beavers.” Hmmm...something to ponder.

Monday...Marisa Wahl, Miss Chinatown 2008 and a former `Iolani kindergartner, came to share stories, information, and candy with the children.  Here is what some of them had to say.  “I tinck you ar prite.”

“She red u store to us and she asck us wut we et at chinutown.”

Tuesday...150 7th graders came down to make origami heart pins with the kindergartners. All of the students made one pin to give away to someone they love, AND a bunch of hearts will be sent to Jana Wang to give away at the Ronald McDonald House and the MD Anderson Center in Houston, Texas.

Wednesday...was Ash Wednesday, and Scott Kim, the Keables Chair recipient, visited with some of the kindergartners...that was fun!

Thursday...was the 100th Day of School! The five-and six year-olds did at least a hundred things...counting, writing, and reading 100 words.  The collections of 100 things that the children brought in were so much fun to see! They also got to see the third grade production called “Get in the Game” in Seto Hall.

Friday...was when the keiki celebrated Chinese New Year...with a narcissus flower presentation, lion dance, story telling and snacks.  Gung Hee Fat Choy!

Wow! What a fantastic week!
