This year’s second grade program, “Honoring Our Veterans,” recognized World War II veterans from the 100th Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and Military Intelligence Service. The program was the culmination of an oral history project that the students were involved in during the year. The second graders from the Class of 2018, with the help of Mrs. Susan Igawa’s Asian-American Experience students, interviewed these veterans to learn more about World War II and the contributions, accomplishments, and experiences of this distinguished group of men.
The program included second grade speakers who described the special project, songs and dances from the 1940s, and a multimedia presentation. It featured a march of second graders and their parent and grandparent armed forces veterans. A special mahalo to our armed forces veterans and honored guests from the 100th Battalion, 442 RCT, and MIS for making this interview project and program a meaningful and memorable experience.
