5th Graders D.A.R.E.
Once a week, a Honolulu police officer, Officer Vegas, visits the class of 2015 and teaches them how to avoid harmful drugs. He talks about drugs (alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, etc.) and the damaging effects of the drugs on the human body and mind. Students learn to make good choices, like saying "NO!" to drugs. They learn about respect and how to cope with temptations, too.
Through role-playing exercises, in a stern but funny manner, Officer Vegas teaches the students about resisting peer pressure. The students said D.A.R.E. has taught them a lot about drugs.
