Two renown animators visited 'Iolani School recently to share their knowledge and talent with students. Dan Holland has worked on Pixar movies such as The Incredibles. He is the lead designer for Pixar's current project, Wall-E, scheduled to be released in the summer of 2008. Mike Nguyen is from July Films and has worked on classic animation movies such as Beauty and the Beast and Iron Giant.

Both artists encouraged students to be expressive and to bring out their feelings in their drawings. Mr. Holland told first graders he tries to give his drawings emotions, whether he is drawing a person, an animal or a tractor. Mr. Nguyen taught third graders how to create an animation sequence. On the inside of a folded piece of paper, he had them draw a picture. Then on the outside of the paper they traced the pictuire but changed a small detail. When they flipped the paper, back and forth, it gave the illusion of motion.
