As Halloween leaves the 'Iolani campus, the Lower School students were excited to be working with guest artist, Ms. Grete Weiss. Ms. Weiss is a thirty-year veteran art educator from Denver, Colorado. She offered an inspiring approach to mask-making in clay. Students used their research of cultural masks to create a personal, unique mask. They first drew and colored their masks on paper, then sculptured and assembled it in clay. After the construction, the mask will be painted and embellished with a variety of materials. The Art Department plans on sharing the masks with the parent community upon completion.

Sponsored by the Tam-Young Arts Chair, Ms. Weiss shared her knowledge and expertise in working with clay with all Lower School grade levels for the week she visited our campus.
