Grade Two Pitches In

When Kaela Teho's Grade 2-Ewa classmates heard that she had a goal of raising $1000 in donations for Hawaii's Children's Cancer Foundation during Halloween, they wanted to add their support.

The class decided to hold a garage sale in their classroom during recess.

Each student brought in two gently used articles that another second grader might enjoy.

Their customers would be their friends next door in Grade 2 - Diamond Head.

They raised a total of $164.00.

Kaela's classmates said they had good feelings knowing that they were helping others in need, and this sale was even more special since Kaela is their friend.

In addition, on Halloween night, 36 of Kaela's second grade classmates joined her in trick-or-treating for Hawaii's Children's Cancer Foundation.  The children received a HCCF kit put together by Kaela's mom, Kendis Teho, and went knocking on doors in their neighborhoods and visited homes of friends and relatives asking for a donation in lieu of a treat.

Many children gave out treats to their donors.  When all the money was finally counted, it totaled over $3,000!  One classmate knowing he would be trick-or-treating for donations this year was inspired to carved his pumpkin with the HCCF slogan, "I can cer vive."
