Luke Skywalker exclaimed, “ I want adventure, action, a speeding Millennium Falcon!” But Wise Obi Won and Yoda professed, “To become a Jedi Warrior, you must first learn about courage, teamwork and perseverance.” Luke received a history lesson from “Frontiers of the Past,” a play presented on November 17, by the Class of 2013. The three-part play traced the struggles and settlement of the Pilgrims in a new world. Luckily, the Native Americans helped them acclimate to the land, and they celebrated together at our country’s first Thanksgiving.
During the feast, Pilgrims were told a Native American folktale, “Coyote’s Gift.” Coyote and his animal friends stole fire from three ferocious fire keepers and saved the humans from a harsh winter. Working together helped the animals to accomplish the feat, and it benefited all of humankind.
Capt. Lewis, Capt. Clark and their diverse crew of
explorers helped Luke to see the value of partnership. Their “can-do” spirit helped them through their treacherous journey over unknown lands.
The program wove together wonderful acting and beautiful singing, playing of musical instruments and dancing. Best of all, the students agreed, “It was loads of fun!” The hour of entertainment and learning demonstrated the spirit of cooperation and teamwork, and reminded everyone to be thankful for our blessings.
