Yee-haw! The 20th Annual Iolani Pumpkin Patch (We double checked with Armstrong Produce.) was absolutely perfect! To start off the event, five special characters (looking strangely like the “special teachers”) danced the life cycle of the pumpkin as it’s never been done before. Next, the multi-talented children from kindergarten and then first grade performed tricky foot-stomping square dances taught by Lisa Simon. Mary Hicks then introduced two peppy songs... “Round and Round the Pumpkin Patch” and “Pumpkin Jack!”...that were belted out with gusto. All of the performances definitely pleased the crowd of over four hundred smiling parents and grandparents!

After a quick stroll down the road to the “Iwashita Pumpkin Patch,” the children, clad in farmer garb, were delighted to select one that was just perfect. (They all were.) Parents provided leadership, apple cider, decorations, signs, pumpkin scrubbing labor, and a positive attitude! Ani’s Bakery once again treated us to heavenly glazed donuts...the perfect treat for the farmers after a rigorous afternoon in the fields.

We are so indebted to the the Armstrong Produce Ohana for their support of this autumn, harvest event for the past twenty years!
