The Chamber Music Ensemble Interpreti Veneziani came to ‘Iolani and performed in the chapel during periods 1 and 2 on Tuesday, January 28 2008. They were fantastic! This group of eight string players from Venice played music by Vivaldi, Corelli and Rossini. Six of our students – Matthew Amore, Aliisa Lee, Stephanie Lum, Teresa Ou, Blaise Tesoro and Elvina Zhang - joined in on Corelli’s Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 4 and played beautifully with the ensemble.

The program opened with the Storm movement from “Summer” of Vivaldi’s Four Season which was very appropriate as the rain came cascading down outside the chapel. This was followed by one of Vivaldi’s Concertos for two violins. The program ended with a cello arrangement of Paganini’s Moses Variations on a theme by Rossini. The cellist performed this technically challenging piece flawlessly and the students loved it.
Although this ensemble is one of Venice’s tourist attractions and have performed worldwide, this is their first visit to the United States and we were very fortunate to get them here thanks to Kathy Hafner, Scott Anderson (our woodwind quintet coach), the educational outreach program of the Honolulu Chamber Music Series, and the Tam and Young Arts Chair.
